i think i may have a new addiction...yoga. now, i have taken the odd class here or there but they never really struck me one way or the other, it always sort of seemed like something i "should" like, or "should" do because its good for me. but it always felt like a chore and i never could get motivated and then whenever i finally made up my mind to go check out a class i would find out it was like 18 bucks a session. that alone is enough to keep me away...but i have been feeling restless and unsatisfied lately, i want to look and feel better, even if only for the most selfish reason of it begin helpful to producing new photos. so i was passing through costco and i spotted a yoga dvd and picked it up without much thought. i went home, popped it in the machine and got to streching. i am almost left speechless it was so good. it was so relaxing, yet slightly strenuous, i could definately feel my body working. the best part is that the combination of the subtle strenuous excercise and the rhythmic breathing give you this incredible intense high. it was better than heroin, i shit you not. i walked away with a buzz like i have never had from any drug and i was instantly hooked. i woke up first thing the next day, still feeling relaxed and energized and i couldnt wait to get back on my little mat. then i did some more that nght. i would have gotten back on today but i had to go to the city to see off my departing inlaws (i am sorry to see them go, it has been a wonderful and informative time). i am a little curious to see if this new passion will really make any changes in my form, but even if it doesnt i will probably stick with it for the cheap high. i realize that part of what i didnt like about it before was being in a room full of people, i cant seem to concentrate..that said, i just heard about a class that seems intruiging, though i am certainly a long way off from being ready for it, it is 70 minutes, in a room with a 107 temperature and 60% humidity....whats that crap neitzsche used to say? what does not kill you makes you stronger...i think that definately applies in this case.

ok, you all are going to have to indulge me in a mini rant here:

we went out to dinner last night to this place in provincetown. the food was spectacular, the drinks potent, and the atmosphere quite nice until...they put on a large screen tv and blasted the volume on sex and the city!!! i didnt realize that just because we are in gay mecca that the world had to stop so we could all be forced to watch that crap. i dont give a fuck what anyone says that show is a pile of dog shit.

first of all none of these women are even attractive, kim catrall looks like amanda lepore with her lips deflated and mister L's dad thinks sarah jessica parker looks like a man. i am inclined to agree. oh yeah, and pat field, i am holding YOU personally responsible for the ridiculous amount of bad fashion that has been perpetuated by this show, knickerbocker pants with high heels? what the fuck were you thinking? i am embarassed i ever worked for you.

but more than just being catty about their looks, i hate what the show represents. everyone seems to think its very female forward because the women curse, drink, and fuck like men...but if you watch it all of their posturing is completely undercut by the fact that they are all desperately looking for a man to complete them. where is the fucking feminism in that?!?! what the show is really saying (whining) is, "yes, i am a woman, and i am independent and sucessful, i have an incredible job and a fabulous apartment...but what i really need is a man. a man who will love me unconditionally (at least till i find fault with him and get bored) and until i find that man i am going to fill the vacant hole in my soul with cosmopolitans and expensive shoes."

fuck that.

that is a bunch of neo 50's ideal bullshit and i am not having it. that show and all its sycophants can take a flying leap. maybe it is easy for me to say that because i am under 30 and married, i dont feel the desperation to pair up settling in as i reach my mid to late 30's, but that was a fluke. i never inteded to get married. hell, when i met mister L i wasnt even interested in dating anymore. i could have gone on quite happily on my own for an indefinite amount of time. instead i met an amazing person, i commited myself to him and now i am a housewife.

housewife, you say, where is the feminism in that? people seem to assume that feminism means being a ball busting carreer obsessed man hater. in my mind, true feminism is not about being married or single (no matter what your age), it is about giving us choices to live our life as we please, have careers or not, have children or not, and not feel like you have to apologize or justify it to anyone. my version of feminism is knowing what makes you happy and being cool with yourself, with or without a man. if there is one thing i know about the chicks on that show it is that they are most certainly NOT cool with themselves.

oh and while i am on my little tirade let me throw my 2 cents in about the latest fashion monstrosity, the louis vuitton bag. you know, the one jessica simpson got all gaga over on her show. if you havent seen it let me describe it for you. it is oversized, has his LV initials printed all over it in RAINBOW lettering, and trimmed out with baby poop brown leather straps, which as if the whole thing werent tacky enough is then adorned with big gold studs. ick.

i swear to god women would carry around gold turds under their arm if it had the right logo on it. no wonder i have no female friends. i say we burn all the fashion magazines and start thinking for ourselves for a change.

the cold has passed...and thanks to everyone who wrote to wish me well. i think it was a combination of that and the big snifter of brandy that made me feel better.

right now mister L, his parents and i are all up in providence rhode island. it has been quite awhile since i have taken a family roadtrip and this one has been going rather smoothly up till today. we have only had one point where all of our nerves got frayed and that was in the car on the way up here, but i suppose it really isnt a family road trip till someone has a fight. we travled to newport and stayed in a gorgeous bed and breakfast (parents treat) and today drove further up the coast to another b+b. the first was sort of very formal and this one is much more homey. the second one is so far my favorite but that might just be because it has internet acess and a jacuzzi, and a dog. doesnt take a whole lot to keep me happy...
