i always miss the best parties...sacred called me to tell me that he went to the heatherette fashion show, a line designed by our old pal richie rich and usually modeled by paris hilton. he says he got second row seat and anna nicole smith did a live rendition of diamonds are girls best friend. he said she looked amazing...i am so jealous, i love anna, she is such a demented mess how could i not? she reminds me of certain friends from years ago, no names need be mentioned of course. sacred said paris wasnt there anyway so at least i didnt miss that, i would have been gutted. i loved her movie, she single handedly gave porn a much needed makeover with her kooky glowing racoon style.

ok so i didnt get to go to some big glitzy fashion show this week, big deal, i did get to do something else that was the polar opposite but just as entertaining for me.

i attended my first ladies luncheon.

this is what women in my part of connecticut do, they serve on committees and go to meetings and run events for fundraising, but it isnt an easy racket to break in on, you gotta know people...i have been here for almost 5 years and this is my first foray on the scene. the one i wanted to get involved with is famous for running a huge twice a year tag sale for the whole town, residents donate things from their homes and people come from all over the state to buy them. the day the sale opens people are lined up around the block 2 hours in advance, it's that good. i myself have furnished a good percentage of my home from this event so when i found out that the workers get go shopping in private the day before it opens to the public i knew i had to get in.
not as easy as i would hope, you need two current members to nominate you and write letters on your behalf. i got lucky, two of the women who i do cat work with are members and so they sponsored me, but even then it took a year. i'm thinking, "jeeze, all this to sell a little furniture?" but then i went to my first real meeting this wednesday and i can see why they are so selective. putting on this event takes a phenomenal amount of work, they need some reassurance that a new member is trustworthy.
the meeting itself was interesting, lots of motions being made followed by ayes and nays. i have never sat in on anything so official, where minutes were read and stuff, pretty cool, it definately appeals to my orderly side. i was the youngest person there by a good few years, most of the younger women are in their mid to late 40's and the eldest just died at 102. i am not generally used to being around that many women, and except for the fact that they talk too much, it wasnt so terrible. the food was good.

the funny thing about keeping a blog for me is that i can only do it if i pretend no one is there...or not really no one, but maybe more like a big faceless amorphous mass of people, which according to my stats is fairly correct. 30,000 hits from 30 different countries (wheee!). somehow that is less scary than when i find out the guys in my webmasters office are reading it. then i start imagining a face to put with the name and an imaginary life to go with the face and then imaginary opinions of my blog and all starts to go horribly wrong from there. i become self concious and clam up. i start scrutinizing everything a little too closely and become super self critical.
this is usually the point where i contemplate chucking the whole thing.
happily i never quite get there, i am not sure what brings me back, but i always come back.
writing here usually makes me feel better, wether i am communicating with someone, no one, or everyone. i get what drove leticia off for a few days, it can be a lot of pressure to be interesting all the time. i guess the flip side is it can be a fun challenge too...

its been a hectic one.
a swirl of email, beer, red tape, sex, and long conferences on web design. my super awesome slobstyle web designer and i finally have settled on the new look this site is going to get. we had another design before but it really wasn't "me", it was beautiful but clean, too streamlined and stylish. it woud have been perfect for any kind of high end professional, but not me, i am none of those things. my s.a.s.w.d. knows me very well as a person and even though it was a great design he was the first to suggest we do something else. i'll admit i was kind of relieved, i had my concerns about how i was going to fit myself into that other space, but it doesn't matter because the new one is just right. its like if you had to choose one set of clothes to wear everyday, you would be very careful of what you chose, it would have to be comfortable, enduring, and reflective of your personality. my website is the outfit i am wearing at the big internet party and i want it to be all of those things. i am happy to say i think the new one will fit the bill, not sure when the big reveal is going to be, but it shouldnt take too much longer. there should be some added features, or at least one, and that will be the ability to add photos to my blog. sometimes i have things that are not gallery worthy but might amusing anyway, now i can share.

since we are on the subject, here is my latest set of notable blog links:
in joe's own words "I'm the world's only blogging anesthesiologist - it's a gas gas gas." he has an intruiging combination of science, philosophy, fashion, and porn.

oh and i am happy to report that miss leticia mc kenzie is still with us, it looked like she was going to wobble for a minute, the pressures of an audience were too much. she settled down after a few days and has returned. i suspect she couldn't really give it up even if she wanted to, and thank goodness for that.
