yay!!!!! the mac is fixed, and wouldn't you know it all that was wrong was the mouse. poor thing had been dropped on the floor one too many times and was shorting everything out all the way back up the line. an incredibly simple problem that cost me 80 dollars to figure out...oh well, its better than some of the grim alternatives, it could have cost me a whole lot more. i am just happy to have it back home.

my friend astro and birdie are up here for a visit. astro gave me a cindy sherman book as a belated birthday present. oddly, i have never seen any of her photos before, mostly because she is the first person people usually bring up as a comparison and i was kind of nervous to see what they meant. i was afraid that looking at her work would make me feel mine was redundant, and it kind of did but i didn't mind as much as i thought i would. i took a good long look and was more than a little amazed. obviously her photos are about a million times better than mine, but i was struck by the similarities in themes, our shared obsession with sex and the grotesque, masks and wigs, vintage clothes and prosthetic body parts. i see so many of the ideas that float around in my head already expressed in her prints. it leaves me to wonder about things like the collective unconscious and the vanity of thinking anything is new.

sorry everyone, the mac is still in the shop and i havent answered an email decently since...hopefully i will get it back today or tomorrow because apparently it has become as vital to my well being as a major internal organ. nothing is getting done around here without it...
