feeling a bit better about the human race...ok well not really. i still think that we overwhelmingly suck, but it isnt bothering me quite as much as the last time i posted. i guess the turning point for me was when i realized (yet again) that there isnt much i can do about it except turn my eyes forward to what i can do myself. narrow my vision to my tiny world, keep it small, and try not to notice how awful, mundane, mediocre, useless, tacky, consumptive, arrogant, greedy, wasteful....ooops there i go again. time to put the blinders back on.
we took a few days to go up to cape cod and visit my grandma who is doing a tour of the east coast for the first time since my grandfather died. it rained the whole time we were there, but we had such a great time catching up. the out of season nor-easter blew in a whole flock of ultra rare birds so Mister was thrilled as he is now the envy of all of his birding friends. we opted to sit in the car chatting while we watched him climb up on the breakers and get pelted with flying sand. we were sort of laughing at his crazy dedication until we realized that the car lights were left on and the battery had run down so i had to go out in the mess and try to flag down people with jumper cables. eventually someone took pity on us and i was out there with my ponytail whipping around my face while i tried to connect the wires but the wind was so strong i was afraid to put the hoods up completely for fear that they would be blown clear off. in the end i got the car running but was picking sand out of my hair for the remainder of the trip.
learned some interesting things, as i do each time i see grandma. this time i learned that we may be jewish, which is something that oddly had never been mentioned before considering we were all technically raised presbetyrian. i also learned that my father, who i have never met, was apparently quite smart. this goes against everything ever intimated about him previously, but then again no one likes to talk about him at all, and when they do its never nice. along the lines of not nice things, i heard about how he had slipped a qualuude in my graqndfathers drink one evening, which resulted in my grandfather taking him out the next night and threatening him with a gun. thats a family legend so i knew he had done that, but i never knew why until now. it also explains why my grandfather had a lifelong suspicion of people slipping mickeys, which actually came in sort of handy whenever you got caught doing something you shouldnt.
but now we are home again, and expecting guests for memorial day weekend. i dont care for holidays excapt that they get you a day off from work and a chance to invite people up for a cook out. all hail the offical start of the summer season.
oh, and on a final note, last night my metal clothing rack collapsed in on itelf under the weight of all my dresses. Mister says this is gods way of telling me i have too many clothes, so i'll be publishing a link to my ebay account soon in case anyone is interested.
